Dogs rely on fosters to leave Puerto Rico

Blue Sky Satos is a foster-based rescue. That means we do not keep dogs in a shelter building in Colorado. Every flight we book, every puppy we pull from the streets or a crowded facility, depends on a local home saying yes.

When you foster, you are not filling a waitlist. You are opening a seat on the next transport. Without fosters, dogs stay where they are. With fosters, they get a second chance.

What fostering entails

Fostering is temporary care with a clear split of responsibilities. We cover the costs. You share your space and time.

What we provide

  • Food, toys, leashes, and treats
  • Medical care and coverage
  • Guidance from our foster team
  • Help finding adopters and coordinating meet and greets

What you provide

  • A safe place to sleep and decompress
  • Daily walks, play, and basic training
  • Patience while the dog settles in
  • Updates so we can match them with the right forever home

What to expect

Most of our dogs find adoptive families within a few weeks. Timelines vary: puppies often move quickly, and older dogs can take longer. Full-time fosters may last 1 to 2 weeks, or up to a month or two. Some dogs stay longer.

  • Support is built in. If something is not working, we step in and find a better solution for the dog and for you.
  • Backup fosters help everyone. Need a weekend away? Tell us, and we coordinate coverage so you can travel.
  • Short-term counts. Substitute fostering for a few days is a great way to start and still frees a rescue seat.
  • If your plans change, we take the dog back. Fostering should never leave you stuck.
